Built Tough. Sold Out.
What Happened to Tonka?
A documentary about the rise and fall of America’s toughest toy.
PRODUCERS NOTE
Four years ago I followed my mother into the Westonka Historical Society, and my whole childhood came rushing back — I was in the sandbox again with my brother and our friends. I hadn't known Ron Pauly or the men and women who built the original Tonka Company, but I realized what they'd given millions of kids like me across the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. I've never met anyone from those eras who didn't grow up with a Tonka truck.
This film is a love letter to the people who made them — their hard work, their pride, their values. The paint, rust, and sand get in your blood. We'd love your help getting this one over the finish line.
